The Wärtsilä 31 is setting a new standard for energy efficiency, delivering the lowest level of fuel consumption of any four-stroke engine worldwide. It also offers an unprecedented level of operational flexibility and can easily be adapted to accommodate different fuel types and operating profiles.

This high efficiency was cited as a key consideration in the award of this contract to Wärtsilä. The recently introduced Wärtsilä 31 engine, which has been acknowledged by Guinness World Records as being the world's most efficient four-stroke diesel engine, has been selected to power a new generation icebreaker currently under construction at the PJSC Vyborg Shipyard.
